Case Study: Guiding Target Selection for Clinical Development

Learn how a BTH client saved time and money by learning from past failures in the field and selecting a target with the highest probability of success.

Situation: An oncology-focused client needed guidance in selecting therapeutic targets for their technology

Task: Align the client’s team on the top 3 candidates, provide a 360° tumor-agnostic view on the strengths and weaknesses of each to enable a final decision

Actions:

  • Built a target screening tool customized to the client’s technology

  • Facilitated a workshop with the client to align on the top candidates for deeper evaluation

  • Compiled deep-dives on each target landscape, including all efficacy and safety data to date in key indications, successful and unsuccessful clinical outcomes, emerging trends, development timelines, structure-function relationships and probabilities of technical and regulatory success

  • Utilized primary intelligence to validate assumptions and address any knowledge gapsResult: The client submitted a competitive grant application with a concise, defendable revenue model and won non-dilutive financing. They also established confidence with board members, enabling productive board meeting discussions around their differentiating attributes and competitive strategy. The client expanded their engagement with BTH to receive updates in line with quarterly board meetings.

Result: Leveraging our insights, the client saved time and money by learning from past failures in the field and selecting the target with the highest probability of success. We then worked with this client to develop a continuous competitive monitoring plan with the right cadence to stay abreast of developments that could impact our current assumptions.
